We opened a ticket last time for the same problem...

http://www.helicontech.com/forum/18861-
Bad_configuration_Please_help_masters.html

I some way the problem appear to be corrected, but
persist... I have the following rule:

SetEnv mod_linkfreeze
LinkFreezeRule /// "asp=htm" [MoveExt]

I have a website:

http://cloud8.pbshou.com

One sample of the links inside the website is:

http://cloud8.pbshou.com/clasificados.asp?de=Abogados-
Servicios-Legales

The result is:

http://cloud8.pbshou.com/clasificados/de/Abogados-
Servicios-Legales.htm

which is fantastic, but a 404 error appear... while
trying to load the following URL:

http://cloud8.pbshou.com:80/clasificados/de/.asp?
Abogados-Servicios-Legales&clasificados=de

The error disappear if we remove the [MOVEEXT]... is
there a way to get a fix for this?

I can give you live access, so we can test it out live...
thank for your support. 832-292-0088

Hello,

First, just for testing try to use another replacement character instead of "/". For example, a "~".
And report if anything changes.

Also, please tell what build of Helicon Ape you are using.

I'm using the version 3.0.0.76

I have replaced the /// for ~~~, and it seems to work
(please open http://cloud8.pbshou.com)

Click on 1 category... click on 1 subcategory... BUT
HERE's the problem... when click on 1 ad.. (inside a
subcategory) the error appear:

HTTP Error 400.0 - Bad Request

We would like to use the /// not the ~~~, because this is
the way the other product we had, used to do it...
(helicon linkfreeze for IIS6)... please let me know.

I've surfed your site and it looks quite ok.
Can you provide the link which causes 400 error, the screenshot of it and in what category and subcategory I should go to reproduce it.

Please go to http://cloud8.pbshou.com

Click on the first category: "Abogados Servicios
Legales
" then, subcategories will appear, click on
the first one "Abogados Casos ACCIDENTES" and a
list of ads will appear... now, if you try to see the
first Ad on the top left, it will say: Bad Request
and, when running the page on the server, details are
shown: HTTP Error 400.0 - Bad Request ASP.NET detected
invalid characters in the URL. If you click the second
Ad, it works perfectly... anyway, we would like to use
/// instead of ~~~ but we are having problems anyway.
Thanks and please advise.

The problem with the links which give out Bad request contain "% 3 F" sequence which is encoded question mark. IIS 7 doesn't like this, so
you should get rid of it. It's not mod_linkfreeze bug.

Anton, thanks for your answer, but sincerely, I don't
think this is the right way to go... I will not remove
that, because that character "?" (%3f) is correctly
encoded but the IIS itself... in other words, are you
saying that I can not send a question mark symbol in my query-string??

The problem, happens ONLY when we use LinkFreeze, in
normal conditions, the hyperlinks work without any
problem, so, the problem is LinkFreeze, not the IIS or
the string I'm trying to pass.

Let's dig on this please, I can give you access to the
server via remote.

I'm using LinkFreeze on IIS 6 (we paid the license), and
the product is working fine, but we are moving to IIS 7
and we found this problems.

First problem: The product seems NOT TO support the ///
replacement.

Second problem: The product change my charset encoding...
I had to replace all my áéíóúñ spanish characters by the
html char (á = ´) >>>> resolved

Third problem: When using the ~~~, now we are unable to
see some urls...

Please advise... if we have to buy the license, we will
(even if we only will use this on a website and the
product we already paid doesn't work with IIS 7), but we
need this to be resolved. Thank you!!!

"The problem, happens ONLY when we use LinkFreeze, in normal conditions, the hyperlinks work without any problem, so, the problem is

- Can you give me an example of a link that is working with "% 3 F" when it's not processed by LinkFreeze?

"The product seems NOT TO support the /// replacement."
- it does support it. But it's a really bad idea to use slash as replacement character as linkfreeze can't do magic and guess which slashes
are folder separators and which were added for SEO.

"The product change my charset encoding... I had to replace all my áéíóúñ spanish characters by the html char (á = ´)"
- can you clarify what encoding you used and how it was changed. What characters were corrupted?

"When using the ~~~, now we are unable to see some urls... "
- please provide some specific examples. What does "unable to see" mean?

Hello Anton,

- Can you give me an example of a link that is working with "% 3 F" when it's not
processed by LinkFreeze?

Yes, I will disable the LinkFreeze rule and please try the following link:

http://cloud8.pbshou.com/anuncio.asp?
clasificado=%BFLASTIMADO+EN+ACCIDENTE+DE+AUTO+O+TRAILER%3F&ID=380272

You said:

- it does support it (///). But it's a really bad idea to use slash as replacement
character as linkfreeze can't do magic and guess which slashes
are folder separators and which were added for SEO.

We do not expect linkfreeze to do magic... but we have the old version (LinkFreeze
for IIS 6 running on www.BuenaSuerte.com) and is working fine, is not a magic
problem, if the product was running on the old version, should be a reason or a
programming issue about, why is not working properly now.

Last time I talked to you on (http://www.helicontech.com/forum/18861-
Bad_configuration_Please_help_masters.html) you corrected the problem, but now,
the problem came back for some reason... in the last post, you recognized you had
a problem with your product... why you say this now??

You said:

- can you clarify what encoding you used and how it was changed. What characters
were corrupted?

About the charset, I had to replace all my extended characters, because for some
reason, when running a website with an "á", it coverts the "á" into %$$#@@#... so
I had to replace the "á" for the equivalent in html (extended character), we are a
hispanic business... but that's resolved, nothing to worry about.

You said:

- please provide some specific examples. What does "unable to see" mean?

You told me to test the url not with the "///" but "~~~", I did the change, just
to test (not because I want to use the ~ symbol) and now, some Urls are not
working because I'm using the "?" (encoded)??

Thanks for reading and for your patience... again, thanks for your help!!

Hello,

As for the encoded question mark: it's true that it works without linkfreeze. But it happens because when linkfreeze is off your URL has
another question mark (indicating the beginning of query string) and "% 3 F" is just on of the characters in the query string. When URL is
frozen, you don't have a query string, and IIS doesn't accept "% 3 F" in the main part of the URL (before query string).

As for the slashes as replacement chars: it does work in Ape. The only thing you may need to use to make it work properly is so called
"linkfreeze base" where you can specify the part of the folder structure that should not be considered by linkfreeze during "un-freezing":

SetEnv mod_linkfreeze_base /

Hope you got what I mean.

Hello,

You see, we are also the slaves of this issue with "% 3 f" as it's inherent to .NET and APE relies on .NET 100%.
mod_linkfreeze is a complex scheme which is not very flexible.
You may consider changing these problematic links manually to a SEO-frienfly form and use mod_rewrite to rewrite them back behind the scenes.
