I have just taken a VPS Windows 2008 server with WebSite Panel and confess I know very little about Windows server.

When I tried to Passowrd Protect a directory using WSP I was warned that this would change the application pool and pipeline and the two files .htpasswd and .htaccess would be created (which they were). It was only later that I discovered that I needed to download and install Helicon Ape first for this feature to work! I have now downloaded and installed Ape successfully but from WSP there is an error reported when I click on the "Edit httpd.conf" button. Also, the previous link to password protect a directory on the WSP is no longer there.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Ape, restarted Windows and set permissions on httpd.conf to <machine>\IUSR but there is obviously something I'm missing. Could you help please.

Could you please explain in details how you try to password protect a folder - what rules do you have in Ape; what settings you have changed.
Also please tell if you have any authentication enabled in IIS.
