I'm trying out the trial version of Helicon Ape.

I have a, server 2003 (32bit) running Plesk 10.2.

I've installed the Full version and added the .htaccess file in to the root directory. When I want to test by typing in http://domain/test it pops up a username a password window instead of the forbidden message?

In the manager I right clicked the site in question and clicked "enable helicon ape"

The only thing in the .htacess file is

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule . - [F]

This behavior may be due to Plesk restrictions.
Firstly, please try to access this same /test page with Helicon Ape disabled.
If you still get the password request, check permissions in Plesk and retry.
