Please try to use the following config:

RewriteBase /

RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^SearchSTR=(.+)$
RewriteRule ^search\.php$ search/%1? [R=301,NC,L]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^search/([^/.]+)$ search.php?SearchSTR=$1 [NC,L]

Thank you Anton. The code you have given me looks ok and do not for a second believe there is a problem with it. I have seen over examples like mine but not the same and could not get my head around it.

I have added the code to the .htaccess file using the interface in IIS and the tool provided by helicontech to make sure...

But I gat a 404 error when I enter http://www.domain.com/search/shopping for example!

I am using a windows 2003 x64 and have the x64 installed of the helicontech software. (ISAPI_Rewrite3_0064_x64.msi)

Is there any configuring i need to do manually or should it just work straight from the install?

Sorry for this, I just some times prefer to talk and learn and hopefully someone else can make use of this...

The rules I provided above should work for you right after install.
But if they don't, please enable logging as per instructions in our FAQ
and provide rewrite log records for the specific request (say http://www.domain.com/search/shopping).
